First: Do Not Panic, Do Not Ignore It
Finding mold under your house is unsettling, but it is also common — Baltimore's damp crawl spaces grow mold the way gardens grow weeds. It is a fixable problem with a well-understood solution. What you should not do is either extreme: panic-hiring the first company that scares you, or ignoring it and hoping it goes away. It will not go away. It will spread, slowly, as long as the moisture lasts.
Second: Do Not Just Spray It
The internet is full of bleach-and-pray advice. Bleach does not reach mold roots in porous wood, and the water in it can feed regrowth. Fogging chemicals without fixing moisture kills what you see and leaves the cause. Painting over it hides it. None of these are remediation — they are cosmetics with a chemical smell.
Third: Get a Real Assessment
You need three answers: how far has it spread, what is the moisture source, and is the wood structurally sound? Our free inspection answers all three with photos and meter readings. That assessment determines whether you need a simple treatment or full remediation — and what moisture fix keeps it from returning.
Fourth: Remediate, Then Fix the Moisture
The correct order: contain the area, physically remove the growth, treat the wood, then eliminate the moisture — drainage, barrier, vents, dehumidifier, or full encapsulation as the space needs. Remediation without the moisture fix is a recurring subscription you did not sign up for.
What About Your Health?
We are not doctors, and we will not tell you what mold is doing to your body. What we can say: mold releases spores, crawl space air rises into your home, and removing the mold plus drying the space removes your exposure at the source. If you have health concerns, talk to your doctor — and talk to us about removing the source.
